Madison, WI — Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin is aware of the recent closure of Ruby’s Pantry locations in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and North Dakota. Ruby’s Pantry has been an important resource for families, especially those on limited or fixed incomes, helping them put food on their tables.
“It’s unfortunate that patrons of Ruby’s Pantry can no longer rely on that resource for their families,” said Michelle Orge, president and executive director of Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. “But, I want them to know that they are not alone. Second Harvest and our vast network of partner pantries are here to provide the supplemental support they need.”
We recognize the impact this closure may have and want to assure families that Second Harvest and our network of partner pantries are committed to supporting those in need. We provide support to six communities that had regular Ruby’s Pantry pop-up food distribution events. These communities included Platteville, Dodgeville, Prairie du Chien, Mt. Horeb, Jefferson, and Tomah. We are actively monitoring the situation alongside our partner pantries in those communities to determine whether additional resources are needed to ensure that all families have access to enough nutritious food to thrive.
For families who are already familiar with Second Harvest and our network of pantries, and for those who have not received support from us in the past, please know that we are here for you. Unlike Ruby’s Pantry, there is no cost to utilize our services. Our mission is to ensure that everyone in our community has access to the food they need, and we remain committed to that goal.
