Hunger Facts

  • Hunger is a reality for 1 in 9 people in southwestern Wisconsin, including 1 in 7 children.
  • Nearly 147,000 people are food insecure in southwestern Wisconsin, of those, nearly 40,000 are children.
  • Each month, over 55,000 visits are made by local families to food pantries, mobile pantries, and school markets.

Impact on community

  • Last year, Second Harvest distributed 26.3 million pounds of food.
  • 60 % of the food we distribute is nutrient-rich, including fresh produce, meat, dairy, canned or frozen fruits and vegetables, eggs, and milk.
  • Second Harvest helps provide the equivalent of 60,123 meals a day.
  • Since 1986, Second Harvest has helped provide over 286 million meals.
